Re-skinning Guidewire’s ‘Canvas’ app

Canvas is an application that is part of the Data and Analytics suite of Guidewire products. This application allows geospatial visualization of Claims and Policy data. Users can visualize data on a map in several ways:

  • Using a date range

  • By drawing a custom area using a drawing tool

  • Or by drawing a rectangle of varying size

Problem statement:
Re-skin the app without changing any functionality.

Solution

  • We separated the navigation and the actions by creating 2 separate bars for both purposes.

  • We ensured that the navigation and the actions are persistent.

  • Functionalities that were present in floating layers were accommodated in the actions bar.

  • Consistency was ensured by using designs created for standard navigational affordances - e.g. dropdowns, datepickers, buttons, and avatars amongst others.

Re-skinning Guidewire’s ‘Compare’ app

Compare is an application that is part of the Data and Analytics suite of Guidewire products. This application allows comparison of two or more sets of data. Users can then store their results along with their queries and choose to just refresh the data by running the same query again.

Problem statement:
Re-skin the app without changing any functionality.

Solution

  • There were major navigational issues with the existing application. The navigation was not persistent, so the user would be forced to go back, often exiting the app by mistake.

  • Since we re-skinned the Canvas and Compare app at the same time, we started using the same paradigm of separating navigation and action, putting them on separate bars and making them persistent.

  • Consistency was ensured by using designs created for standard navigational affordances - e.g. dropdowns, accordions, buttons, and avatars amongst others.
